Meet the founder, Alyssa Nguyen

Creating brands that feel like you, and celebrate your identity

Fun fact: my design journey actually started out as a hobby while I was a sophomore at Princeton! ๐ŸŽ“ While studying multi-ethnic literature, I fell in love with branding design. And it was during my junior year that I created ATNN Design, a branding studio centering BIPOC & WOC in an industry where less than 0.5% of us are represented! ๐Ÿซถ

With my studio, I combined my two passions to create a space where founders of minority backgrounds & marginalized communities could find cultural sensitivity and a positive branding experience. ๐Ÿ’ซ Now, I work as both a brand designer and a design mentor to help lower the barrier to the field and bring the fun back to building a business.

From self-taught to self-starter

Here's my story

Started Learning Design ๐Ÿง

Fun fact: I actually danced in a hip hop group for all 4 years at Princeton! It was for this group that I started learning design in the first placeโ€”and by learning, I mean bingeing random tutorials online when I shouldโ€™ve been studying! I designed the posters and promos for our shows, and started getting design requests from all over campus.

Designed Random Things ๐Ÿ‘€

The designs I created for various student groups and for the college gained some attention from alumni, many of whom were entrepreneurs. That led to a series of random design gigs: t-shirt designs, a book cover, pamphlets, presentation decks, and more. It wasnโ€™t until my first branding client that my heart really started to sing!

Created ATNN Design ๐Ÿค

After my first brand, I was hooked and immediately started focusing on how to do this for a living! It was my senior year, I had a thesis to write, and yet I decided to start a business. I spent all my free time learning about client management, design softwares, and more. And over the course of the year, I took it from books to bookings.

Graduated & Went Full-Time ๐ŸŽ“

I was applying to a mixture of jobs, but tbh my applications were half-assed. I knew in my heart that any position I got would be inferior to the business I had developed over the year. So, I decided to take the risk to pursue running the studio full time after graduation (and boy, am I glad for the first time ever, I took the riskier path!)

100+ Clients & Counting ๐Ÿ‘

Fast forward 5 years of business, 200 design students, and 100+ clients, and youโ€™ll find me here today! Iโ€™m still pursuing the same goals as when I started: create a space where marginalized founders can feel seen & represented in their branding; lower the barrier of entry to the design world; and make every part of building a business fun & fulfilling!

Started My Design Course ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

That summer, I moved out of my dorm and into the tiniest shoe box of an apartment on the 6th floor of a Manhattan walkup. I spent every day creating the course that I wish I had when I was starting my business from scratch, and The Designersโ€™ Summer Camp was born! The first summer launched in 2021, and Iโ€™ve held it every summer since!

Take what you needโ€”Iโ€™ve got plenty to go 'round
๐Ÿ›

More Fun.
Less Stress

Iโ€™m all about bringing the fun back: back to the design process, back to being a founder, back to building a brand! This is a fun time for you, so my aim is to make it as enjoyable and low-stress as possible. Just because we have some fun, doesn't mean we don't get down to business ๐Ÿ˜ค My systems, approach, and expertise is backed by 5+ years of experience.

๐Ÿ†

Best Client Experience

My unique approach to the design process results in a perfect final product with minimal revisions. I prioritize the discovery phase and present concepts before creating drafts. That way, revisions are about perfecting the vision, instead of trying to find it. The result? High-quality design that fits the brief on an efficient timeline (and that actually feels like you).

๐Ÿค

Trustworthy Design Partner

If you want a yes man, you're in the wrong place ๐Ÿ˜… When you choose to work with me, I promise to honor your vision and preferences to give you the best outcome. Sometimes though, that outcome will come with my professional opinion. I'll always provide my best possible advice and support as your design partner (not your lackey!)

๐Ÿงƒ

Something Fresh & Unique

I consider my self-taught background a superpower. Thereโ€™s no stuffy design school professor in my head telling me I canโ€™t do this or that. Instead, itโ€™s just my unique design approach, your vision, and a match made in heaven. So donโ€™t worry about your designs giving โ€œbeen there, done thatโ€โ€”itโ€™s just not my style.
